On February 7, 2008 the USS Augusta had it's De-Activation Ceremony at the Shepherd of the Sea Chapel in Groton. The first Commanding Officer Captain Tom Turner was the guest speaker and the current and final Commanding Officer CDR Chad Brown summarized the 23 year life of the submarine and concluded the event. The crew looked sharp and the ceremony was impressive. The US Navy Band from Groton entertained the 100+ family members and guests as 3 local film crews recorded the event for cable TV. The SSN 710 culinary artists prepared a delicious meal for all in attendance.
